Like anyone gives a shit about this, well I don't care, I needed the link in a central place. This like is for a Vonage account. What is Vonage you ask, well it's one of the upcomming VoIp companies to hit the circuit. Currently the charge $25 a month for unlimited everything in the United States. Pretty cool. The part I like the best, which I can't use but think is really cool, is if you have a friend anywhere in the world, and they are using Vonage (which the can with a high-speed Internet connection) the call is free, unlimited time. Now that is cool, makes me wish I had friends in Australia (Of course a place to stay when I went there too).

Lightweight wireless sniffer

Rockford Lhotka has a great style for creating business objects using VB. Something Maureen introduced me to a few years ago. With the advent of .net Rockford has continued with his teachings and books with this new language. By popular demand he has written a book based on C# and that is where I have been concentrating most of my studying lately. Like many programmers I am trying to get this oop thing down, and down right. I understand the value of a good framework, now I need to REALLY understand how to put one together.

As some of you may know I have been studing Code Control lately as we need to get it emplimented into our shop. Well all I can say is, "What a pain in the ass." I mean there really isn't any great software apps out there for this. There are pro's and con's to each of them but none of them are totally intuitive or simple. The products still leave a lot of manual work in updates.

...Well I was just pulled away and I have know idea where I was, mentally.

I will continue on with why I am posting in this blog. I have some links to retain.

So how fast is the speed of light? Well I am sure that many of you know, or knew in the past during those oh-so-fun years in physics class. The speed of light, c, in aproximately 300,000 KM/sec. Pretty darn fast. It is really amazing to me that light from the sun takse 8 minutes to reach earth. Here is an interesting website on this subject, What is the speed of light .com . It shows the many ways that the speed of light has been measured through the years until it became so accurate it became a constent that is used to measure the length of a meter (which was a less accurate known length then the speed of light!).

A glass of water will do as much to relieve a child's cough as an expensive, over-the-counter cough syrup, a new study suggests.

The research, published in the medical journal Pediatrics, concludes that parents who treat a child's nighttime cough with the widely available medications are wasting their money.

"Consumers spend billions of dollars each year on over-the-counter medications for cough," said Ian Paul, an assistant professor of pediatrics at Penn State Children's Hospital in Hershey, Pa.

NOTE: This article has been updated since it was originally published in the newspaper.
"But our study showed that the two ingredients used in most over-the-counter medications were no better than a placebo, non-medicated syrup, in providing nighttime relief for children with cough and sleep difficulty as a result of upper-respiratory infection," he said.

About 95 percent of syrups, including the best-selling brands Benylin DM and Robitussin, have dextromethorphan as their active ingredient. It is an antitussive, which suppresses coughing. Other cough syrups contain diphenhydramine, an antihistamine, designed to reduce swelling in the respiratory tract. (Note: An incorrect description of dextromethorphan was given in the original version of this article.)

To conduct the study, researchers recruited 100 children with upper-respiratory-tract infections who had been coughing for an average of more than three days.

The children were given one of three treatments 30 minutes before bedtime: a cough syrup containing dextromethorphan, a cough syrup containing diphenhydramine or a placebo syrup.

Children in all three groups showed a dramatic reduction in cough frequency, but those taking the placebo -- essentially flavored water -- had the best results. On four other measures, the three treatments had virtually identical outcomes.

Paul said this demonstrates that time and proper hydration are the best treatment for most respiratory infections and that the benefit that comes from cough syrups is likely psychological.

The study confirms what many physicians already know. In fact, the Merck Manual of Diagnosis and Therapy, a reference book used by physicians and written by an editorial board of medical experts, says there is little evidence that cough syrups provide any benefit.
